Iβm feeling a bit like a warrior today. Let me explain myself.
Yesterday a friend on mine was saying in her instagram that she wanted to stop using the beauty filters in her stories, because when she doesnβt use a filter she sees herself ugly (even with make up!). My personal commitment (with myself but also with you) is not using those kind of filters neither photoshop (the pictures you see from me have a colour filter, but they are not retouched at all).
If there I anything Iβm certain in this life is that Iβd like to be an example of naturalness (is this even a word in English?). I mean that I donβt want to hide behind any masks.
Did you also buy the flat tummy lies?
The other day a student from Bellydance With The Moon (btw, we start a new cycle every month) told me:
βI was looking for someone who does bellydance in a more relaxed way, that it is for fun, not for keeping up to flat belly fashionβ
Boom! Mission accomplished! Thatβs exactly my motto.
In the last article I shared with you (the one about how to do the belly roll), I said that I struggle to show my belly because itβs not the favourite part of my body.
But I show it for educational purposes. This has been my personal fight for the almost 20 years Iβve been teaching.
But why do I find it so difficult to live in my body as it is? Whatβs wrong with my body? Why do I always hesitate? Why do I always think about losing weight above all?
ACCEPT YOUR IMPERFECT BODY
My body has got nothing wrong, MY BODY IS (IM)PERFECT, AS (IM)PERFECT AS YOURS, and everyoneβs else. But weβve been raised to hate ourselves (and Iβm talking about society in general, not necessarily about your family or mine).
Weβve been raised to pursue a body type that its not ours, a body type that belongs to other people. Donβt forget that the aspect of those others is as (IM)PERFECT as yours and mine.
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO HYPOPRESSIVE TECHNIQUE
I exercise my abs a lot. I do yoga on a daily basis, including a good set of ab exercises. I also dance daily, and as often as I remember, I include my low-pressure abs exercises (Iβm talking about them in todayβs video).
I confess that I started exercising because I also believed the flat belly lie (and Iβm writing this just about to menstruate, with my bloated tummy and all that jazz). But I carried on exercising from a place of self-love.
Sometimes this self-love thing feels as unachievable as world peace, but some other times it works!
See you again soon over here.
Hugs,
Zahida.
